Teşvikiye Palas

About the project

Teşvikiye Palas is a historic apartment building in the Nişantaşı area of Şişli, Istanbul, on Teşvikiye Caddesi opposite the Teşvikiye Mosque. Commissioned by Abdülkadir Bey in the 1930s, the seven-storey building is known for being set back about 3 metres from the street and for its façade with stone balconies; its architect is not documented in sources. Its residents have included former Minister of Public Works Behiç Erkin and public relations pioneer Betül Mardin, who has lived in the building since 1943. The roughly 15-metre wall that Abdülkadir Bey had built to block the windows of the adjacent building still stands; restoration work on the building is ongoing as of 2026.
